Uruguay and Uruguayans

2.6.2020 00:20| Разместил: PavelShumilov| Просмотров: 264| Комментарии: 0

Uruguay is one of the mysterious countries of the world. She is remembered in the news only in case of emergency: wars, natural disasters, catastrophes or economic crises. But in the history of Uruguay there are at least such events - this cup has passed him. And it so happened that today this state is one of the safest, quietest and most comfortable for living in the whole world. Of all the capitals of the states of South and Central America, only in Uruguay Montevideo, any visitor can safely pace the streets - the crime rate here is very, very low. So the newly created special “tourist police” has been idle most of the time without work. Add to this an excellent level of service, quite reasonable prices and a light flair of provincial leisurelyness. Agree

What kind of citizens are they?
Uruguayans are no less a mystery to other nations. From the window of a tourist bus it is difficult to give an objective assessment to the whole people, and therefore those who visited Uruguay sin with some subjectivity in their assessments, as well as the habit of hanging labels. So, about pedantry of Germans, love of French, slowness of Estonians there are jokes around the planet. Although, we will not argue, the main characteristics of each nation exist. They are often called mentality, and are also characterized by traditions, basic habits ...

So each person has his own associations in his head when he hears about the Chukchi, Germans, Russians, inhabitants of Cuba or Americans. And for that matter, the Uruguayans are completely different from their neighbors, Peruvians, Bolivians or Brazilians. Rather, they should look for common roots with the inhabitants of southern Europe - Italians and Spaniards. Unlike other Latin Americans, Uruguayans are very correct, tolerant and polite people. They are not characteristic of qualities so characteristic of other inhabitants of the region as loudness, tactlessness and rudeness.

Moreover, Uruguayans are very scrupulous in everyday life, and also easily forgive minor flaws to their loved ones. And with all these positive aspects, the inhabitants of this country are notable for their rare commitment to traditionalism. Any innovation makes them suspicious, distrustful and initially perceived with hostility. And they also have one common drawback for all Hispanics - this is a very peculiar sense of time. Obligation and punctuality on this continent is not honored by almost all peoples, with the exception of Chileans. Such a close word to the inhabitants of this country as “maniac” (that is, “Tomorrow”), in the understanding of the Uruguayan, can come in two days, a week, a month, or never come at all. And on this the list of shortcomings among the indigenous population is over.

The closest nation on the continent to Uruguayans is the people of Argentina. The inhabitants of La Plata, located on the border between these countries, are considered both at the same time. On both sides of the border you can see about the same desert landscape. The ethnic composition of the population is similar: in both Argentina and Uruguay, the Caucasian race predominates, while in the rest of Latin America the majority of inhabitants are mulattos or mestizos. The language of the inhabitants of the borderland, which is called rioplatense here, is very soft, with a very remarkable accent. This Spanish is impossible to confuse with anything. It was from this accent that the notorious pseudonym Ernesto Guevara, “Che,” came, which means “Hey!” Residents of Argentina and Uruguay are equally temperamental. And by the standards of other Latinos, they are not at all temperamental. They jokingly associate their calmness and prudence with the lowest birth rate on the mainland. True, stereotypes are not alien to Uruguayans. At the same time, like all the nations of South America, the inhabitants of this state identify their citizenship and nationality.

In order to understand the attitude towards Uruguayans of other nations, and even themselves, you need to understand what an ethnic stereotype is. This is a set of opinions about the representatives of an individual people, formed either from outside or inside it. The inhabitants of Uruguay themselves use the classic ethnic stereotypes, in which all the best features of the people are the heritage of previous generations, and the shortcomings are the result of alien trends. Therefore, by the way, their hostility to innovations in any sphere of life is so clearly expressed. Such biased opinions about nations are portrayed by Argentines as proud, Brazilians as eternal children, Bolivians as savages, and Colombians quite often as drug lords. Uruguayans are a rare exception among them. For some reason, such an ethnostereotype did not work out about them.

Although they themselves are venomously characterizing the neighbors. So, a book recently published at a local publishing house by two social scientists clearly describes the middle class of Argentines. Sociologists characterize Uruguayans according to the formula “resident of Uruguay = Argentine self-conceit”. There are a lot of jokes about the megalomania among the inhabitants of Argentina. So, one of them says, when lightning sparkles, a real Argentinean begins to pose, because he believes that higher powers take pictures of him. The saying goes that a bargain is when you buy at cost, and sell for the price that he thinks about himself.

With all this apparent “elitism” and dissimilarity with other states of the region, Uruguay has a very high authority among neighbors and, on the whole, fairly stable positions throughout the world. The high ranking of politicians in this country forces the world government to cite it as an example to other developing states.

So, according to a representative of the United Nations, not a single country in Latin America can claim to be economically developed, as long as there will remain an inseparable gulf between the rich and the poor, and the first will be the majority. And only an even distribution of material, social and cultural resources can improve the situation. And from the entire region, the only country that is striving for this “bright future” is Uruguay.
