Hollywood screenwriters are working on historical films about Tsar Kaloyan and Tsar Boris III . Films will be shot in Bulgaria with the participation of Bulgarian actors.
A film about Tsar Kaloyan will tell of his accession to the throne and his declaration by Roman Catholic Pope Innocent III King, i.e. king of Bulgaria. Then the ruler gained great authority in Europe in the 13th century. The executive director of Nu Boyana Film commented that the company's first wish was to see Mel Gibson, the director of the Bulgarian-themed film, in the chair.
Another film with the working title “The Tsar’s Heart” will take viewers more than 70 years ago to the fateful episode of Bulgarian history. This is an interesting historical period, however, the topic has not yet been told on the big screen. “The film tells about how Tsar Boris III and his entourage come to a decision to save Bulgarian Jews,” commented the representative of the film company.
In both historical films, the cast will mainly involve Bulgarian actors, but guest actors from Hollywood will also take part. Over the next months, famous actors such as Jason Statham, Jessica Alba, Ryan Reynolds and Gary Oldman will come to Bulgaria to shoot.
